Nutrition Bomb Recipe

There was a unit in my herbalism class that left me weirdly obsessed. In one day, we focused on oats, nettle, and burdock. Usually our herbs were taught in pairs according to what body parts they could treat (such as plaintain and calendula for skin). But in this case, it stood out to all of us that these herbs in particular were very nutritive.

Fast forward to a few days ago as I experienced the November cold in Seattle and I realized that I was actually craving fire cider. I fully credit this to my herbalism teacher, who had us sample the first fire cider I had ever had that was actually tasty and didn't burn holes in one's soul. When I came home, the obsession seeded in my brain bloomed into creativity. If my body was craving nutrients, why didn't I just take the most nutritive herbs I had and make them into a tasty drink?

So I took everything I had that seemed appropriate  into my Mason jars, added a dash of honey, and poured apple cider vinegar to cover them. These are the herbs and other ingredients that will sit to infuse for 5 weeks in my cabinet:

White onion: Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, Potassium

Garlic: Potassium, Calcium

Ginger: Gingerol

Nettle*: Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium, Vitamin B, Vitamin C, Iron, Zinc, Silicon, Manganese, Chromium

Rosehips: Vitamin C

Dandelion root: Carbohydrate inulin (soluble fiber)

Red raspberry leaf: Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium, Vitamin A, Vitamin B complex, Vitamin C, Vitamin E

This idea is coming at a good time due to Worldly Events, Being In My 30s, and Going Through a Second Puberty. I basically need as much nutrition as I can get in order to gain and maintain strength and endurance as well as fortify my nervous system. Also, as a person who is neurodivergent and struggles with eating right, this drink will not only be convenient but novel. I plan on coming up with different versions in order to keep my own interest (because having ADHD is unfortunately often like being a small child and your own exhausted babysitter).

I already have some transgender-specific recipes percolating that will target liver and endocrine support to aid in medical transition. Once those are ready, I will be sharing them here in the future!

*This is why I have decided to resume taking my nettle supplement after a few weeks of assessing for dryness. Nettle is tasty af and it's awesomely good for you. However, if you are generally a dry person (as in your skin and hair is often dry), red raspberry leaf may be the better option for you
