2 Magical, Herbal Remedies for Heartbreak

A number of years ago, I asked one of my herbalism spirits about herbs that could support me through heartbreak. The answer I received was white crysanthemum. In retrospect, I'm glad I didn't pursue it until now because I feel like I've only recently gained some ideas on how to properly combine the herb with other allies.

Some of the following advice, particularly details with the first recipe, come from tips I have picked up from books such as Hoodoo Sen Moises' Working Conjure: A Guide to Hoodoo Folk Magic as well as a number of Lucumi-initiated friends.

Heartbreak Cleansing White Bath Recipe

1 to 2 tablespoons of white crysanthemum for heartbreak

1 to 2 tablespoons of hyssop for cleansing OR a cup of holy water/hyssop water

2+ cups of milk, either dairy or oat for purification

Put all ingredients into a bowl, pray over it to your ancestors, spirit guides, or deities. Pour the bowl of water over your head while praying for cleansing (watch out it will be cold) and shower off the remains.

OR

Put all ingredients into an actual bath. Soak in said bath, praying and contemplating for 20 to 30 minutes. Crying is highly recommended!

I like to do the Tibetan Buddhism 9 breath purification exercise taught by Jason Miller in his book Sex and Sorcery. Lift the right arm first while imagining pure white light entering you as you inhale, lower the arm and pinch the side of your nostril with your ring finger to exhale while imagining black exiting your open nostril. Do the same with the left arm. Go back and forth until each side has breathed 3 times. Then with both arms down inhale pure white light and exhale black another 3 times.

I also like to do some cleansing exercises I've learned in qigong. This involves rubbing my palms together until the friction creates warmth while imagining a purifying white light. I then use my hands to massage my scalp and face, flicking the stagnant qi off my hands into the water afterward.

When I am done, I exit the bath and either sit on a towel on my toilet and wait to air dry or I dry with the towel by patting the moisture into my skin.  Next, I may get into some white clothes and rest in them prior to going to bed.

Heartbreak Tea Recipe

1 part white crystanthemum, for heartbreak

1 part rosehips, for adding sweetness back into your life

1 part chamomile or lemon balm for upliftment

For really tough days, add 1 part jasmine for help with serenity. Combine all herbs and steep in 175 degree water for 5 to 10 minutes, longer if you want or need stronger. Put your hand over the tea and ask the herbs, humbly, for their help with healing your heart. Drink mindfully.
